“The ultimate measure of a person is not where they stand in moments of comfort and convenience, but where they stand at times of challenge and controversy.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
Have you ever found yourself in the midst of pursuing your dreams, suddenly feeling like the universe has abandoned you? That pivotal moment when the initial excitement gives way to the stark reality of the climb? I am there right now, and I want to share something deeply personal with you.
Fourteen days into our Kickstarter campaign for “Courage Finds His Calm,” I woke up feeling that sharp sting of disappointment. Friends and family who enthusiastically said they would support have remained silent. Messages have gone unanswered. The momentum I hoped for has been slower than anticipated.
In these moments, we have a choice – to collapse into victimhood or to rise into empowerment. Today, I am choosing to rise, and I want to share how.
As I sat with my feelings of disappointment and abandonment this morning, I remembered a profound truth: our outer world simply reflects our inner world. This universe operates as a holographic, energetic reality that constantly mirrors back to us our own vibration.
So I asked myself the questions that matter:
The work is always internal. What we perceive as external challenges are actually invitations to deepen our relationship with ourselves and our mission.
This morning, after tears and reflection, I chose a different story to tell myself. I am a Navy SEAL on a mission. The discomfort, the challenge, the emotional and physical demands – these are not unexpected obstacles. They are part of the mission itself.
When Navy SEALs train, they expect:
I knew this mission to transform children’s literature and rally for a generation that won’t need healing, would be challenging.
I knew not everyone would understand or support it. I knew there would be moments that would test my resolve and reveal my true capacity.
This realization gave me energy. It transformed my perspective from “Why is this happening to me?” to “This is happening for me.”

The most empowering realization I had today is that I alone control my response to circumstances. No one else has power over my thoughts, feelings, or actions. I am not a victim of external events but a creator of my experience.
From this place of sovereignty, I can:
This shift in perspective allows me to approach my goals with renewed energy and clarity, focusing on those who are genuinely aligned with our mission rather than those who are not.
Take some time to sit with these questions, allowing your answers to emerge from a place of honest self-reflection:
