FOLLOW THE PLAN, Not Your Mood: A Path to Transformation

follow your plan

“Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.” – William James

Imagine this: It’s a sunlit Saturday morning, and as you lie in bed, a vision for the day begins to take form. Today, you are set on embodying the person you aspire to be—disciplined, healthy, and radiating vibrant energy. Your to-do list is ambitious yet inspiring: visit the grocery store, tidy the kitchen, prep some ripe pineapple and papaya for easy snacking, create no-bake healthy brownies, squeeze in a 20-minute workout, and indulge in a rejuvenating shower along with some well-deserved self-care. You are on a mission, fueled by the excitement of transformation.

The day starts smoothly: dishes are put away, and you head out for groceries. But upon returning home, an unexpected challenge arises—a sudden wave of tiredness, accompanied by an inner voice tempting you with the allure of a cozy nap. The couch seems irresistible, whispering, “Just take a break—you’ve done enough. You can tackle the rest later.”

In that moment, an internal battle begins between the comfort of mood-driven decisions and the new identity you’re striving to embrace.

WHAT STORIES ARE YOU TELLING YOURSELF?

A HACK TO TRANSFORMATION

It’s all about the story we tell ourselves. We can tell the story of how:

  • We are tired and deserve to rest
  • That this is self-care
  • Everything else can wait.

Or , we can tell ourselves the story of:

  • How we will feel when we show up for ourselves.
  • How will we feel when we lie down in bed and review our day.
  • How our inner child feel when we promised ourselves we would do one thing and then back out of our plan.

This was precisely how my Saturday afternoon unfolded. Standing at a crossroads, torn between immediate comfort and long-term growth, I realized the choice before me: adhere to my plan and embody the person I yearn to become, or yield to the fleeting comfort of the present moment.

TRUE TRANSFORMATION

REQUIRES STEPPING BEYOND YOUR COMFORT ZONE!

With a deep breath, I chose to embrace the discomfort and stick to my plan. By the end of the evening, I had accomplished everything I intended to accomplish and it felt good! As I climbed into bed, I felt a profound sense of pride and alignment with the person I aspire to be. I had taken charge and embraced the responsibility of becoming that person

TRANSCENDING THE FAMILIAR

BREAKING THE HABIT OF BEING YOURSELF

Our subconscious mind is a powerful force, dedicated to keeping us tethered to the familiar—sometimes to feelings of:

  • DEPRESSION
  • ANXIETY
  • LACK
  • EXHAUSTION

It seeks safety in the known.

To break free, we must embrace the discomfort and venture into the unknown.

STEPPING INTO A NEW IDENTITY

ONE CHOICE AT A TIME

ASK YOURSELF:

  • “What would the person I aspire to be do?”

If your goal is to become thin, healthy, and physically fit, ask,

  • “What would a fit person do?”

If you aim to own and build a multi-million-dollar company, consider,

  • “What would the owner of such a company do?”

By adopting those habits and mindsets, you align with that reality. It’s about method acting—acting as if you are already that person.

BOOK SUGGESTIONS:

James Clear, in his book “Atomic Habits, explains that your identity is your “repeated being.” The word identity comes from the Latin word “essentia” (being) and “identidem” (repeatedly). To change your belief systems, you must embody the person you choose to be through consistent, intentional actions.

For a deeper understanding of how our beliefs shape our reality, consider reading Bruce Lipton’s “The Biology of Belief.” It explores the profound impact our subconscious beliefs have on our lives and how we can reprogram them.

DAILY PRACTICES

STEPS TO TRANSFORMATION

  1. Craft Your Vision: Define the identity you wish to embody and the actions that align with it.
  2. Set Intentions: Clearly outline your goals and purpose for the day, guiding your actions with intention.
  3. Recognize Mood Traps: Be vigilant of the moments when your mood attempts to derail you. Acknowledge it, yet remain steadfast.
  4. Embrace Discomfort: Growth lies in discomfort. Push through the fatigue and uncertainty to align with your vision.
  5. Practice Consistency: Each small effort is a building block toward your desired self.
  6. Celebrate Progress: Reflect on your achievements and honor each step taken toward transformation.

DAILY AFFIRMATIONS

ENERGETIC ALIGNMENT

The most empowering realization I had today is that I alone control my response to circumstances. No one else has power over my thoughts, feelings, or actions. I am not a victim of external events but a creator of my experience.

JOURNAL PROMPTS

INNER EXPLORATION

Take some time to sit with these questions, allowing your answers to emerge from a place of honest self-reflection:

By choosing the plan over your mood, you transcend old identities and step boldly into the new. Embrace the power of the (re)Parenting journey, and watch as you create a life in alignment with your true self.
