Beyond Traditional Therapy: Embracing Our Spiritual Nature for True Healing

“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”  – Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Let’s explore what, to me, is a very important topic: “The Limitations of Traditional Talk Therapy” and the power of embracing our spiritual nature for genuine healing and growth.

The path to true healing and personal growth often involves a holistic approach that honors all aspects of our being – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. By recognizing and nurturing our spiritual nature, we can unlock powerful resources for healing and transformation that reside within us.

The Missing Piece in Traditional Therapy: While traditional talk therapy can have its place in offering personal growth and healing to a portion of its overall clients, it often falls short of providing complete healing. A number of my own clients have spent years in traditional therapy, with numerous therapists, never finding the path out of their suffering that they needed. Why? Because traditional Psychology typically ignores a crucial aspect of our being: our soul!

The Separation of Soul from Healing: Just as our educational systems have been designed to limit us for only specific roles in society, our medical and mental health systems focus primarily on physical and cognitive aspects of wellbeing. This approach overlooks the spiritual dimension of human experience. The exclusion of spiritual or soul-centered approaches from mainstream psychology and medicine has led to a mechanistic view of human health and healing and prevents us from tapping into the quantum field of unlimited possibilities for healing alternatives. As a result, people have been trained and guided to seek answers and healing through external means, such as, medication or prolonged therapy that continually dredges up the past, without addressing the deeper, spiritual aspects of their being.

THE POWER OF THE PRESENT MOMENT

Traditional therapy often involves repeatedly discussing past traumas and disappointments. While acknowledging these experiences is important, constantly revisiting them can anchor them more deeply into our reality. As the saying goes, “Energy flows where attention goes.”

This profound insight highlights three key points:

”Your past and future exist only in our thoughts. Their reality is shaped entirely by the stories and perspectives we choose to hold in the now moment.” -Lisa Watson

You Are the Creator of Your Reality: A fundamental truth often overlooked in traditional therapeutic approaches is that we are the creators of our reality. Our thoughts, beliefs, and perspectives shape our experiences. When we understand this, we gain the power to change our reality by changing our thoughts.

The Power of Spiritual Awareness in Healing: Recognizing the spiritual dimension of our existence can open up new pathways for healing and personal growth. By acknowledging that we are more than just our physical bodies and thoughts, we can tap into a deeper source of wisdom and resilience.

The Spiritual Being Having a Human Experience: At our core, we are spiritual beings having a human experience. Our bodies are avatars through which we experience this physical reality, but they are not who we truly are. When we recognize this, we can create space between our spiritual self and our physical experiences, allowing us to observe and respond to situations from a higher perspective.

Integrating Spirituality into Healing: Incorporating spiritual awareness into our healing journey can take many forms:

A NEW APPROACH TO HEALING

To recognize your spiritual nature and connect with your higher self in the present moment, consider incorporating these practices into your daily life

These approaches often bring immediate relief and a new perspective to life’s challenges. They empower individuals to take control of their experiences, by pointing them inward, rather than feeling victimized by circumstances that they feel they cannot control.

As we move forward in our individual and collective healing journeys, it’s important to remain open to diverse approaches and to trust our innate wisdom. The integration of spiritual awareness with other forms of therapy and healing can lead to a more complete and fulfilling path to wellbeing. By embracing these aspects of our nature, we can often find healing and growth that goes beyond what traditional talk therapy alone can offer.

REFLECTIONS & ACTIONS FOR THE WEEK

As you go about your days this week, I invite you to think about:

Remember, the journey to wholeness is unique for each individual. Trust your inner guidance, seek support when needed, and remain open to the profound healing that can occur when we honor all aspects of our being. True healing comes not from analyzing or re-visiting the past, but from recognizing your power to shape your reality through your thoughts and perspective in the present moment.
